This week I revisited a job from 12 months ago. The client brief was to create a play space for two young boys, with plenty of scope for active and imaginative play, as well as an area that was great for gardening. Happily it has all worked out, today the playground area is used and the garden is thriving. The site collects rainwater and directs it to the sandpit area that works as a water detention, the surrounding trees have doubled in size now water is freely available.
- The site Jne 2016
- Material was taken from the basin and placed along the fence to create a basin.
- The basin is around 400mm deep to ensure good drainage.
- West facing fence along the swimming pool planted with Ipomoea horsfalliae (Cardinal Creeper).
- Cardinal Creeper 10 months later.
- The decomposed granite path is great for games and passive enjoyment of the garden.
- The verandah undercroft area features a ‘suspended’ floor of gym mats over Diamond Grid flooring, the drying area behind has artificial grass.
- How the verandah undercroft area used to be.
