Making a Small Space Work

The owners of this small backyard in Corinda were so bored with their over grown garden they were keeping the blinds closed just so they didn’t have to look at it! Their request was to create an interesting space that gave them back more lawn area for their two small dogs, plus to have a low maintenance garden area providing interest and colour. In other words, something worth opening the blinds for.

With an existing boulder retaining wall that looked sloppy, and narrow access to bring in and out materials, the site had its challenges. The solution was to clear a lot of existing vegetation, to re-purpose the existing granite boulder wall into a garden feature around an existing tree, install attractive retaining that didn’t take up too much space and to create more lawn area simultaneously.
