UQ Small Bird Freindly Biodiversity Project now completed

Commenced in 2014, Solargreen Landscapes were commissioned by the University of Queensland and the Society for Conservation Biology to write background scientific and feasibility ecological reporting for a planting project to improve ecological diversity between the UQ Campus and the river. Specifically the project was targeting in-decline small bird species, to encourage existing populations at Long Pocket to move further downstream.  12,000 trees, shrubs and ground covers later and the planting is starting to mature. Monitoring of bird species has been ongoing, and although target species sightings are still uncommon, it is hoped that continuing efforts and later maturing stages will bring the see more suitable habitat created. In the meantime, UQ staff and visitors can enjoy the improvements in vegetation, insects, invertebrates and bird life supported by the diverse native planting.
